Facebook Lite App for Android Launched in India and Philippines

Facebook’s low Internet connection friendly Lite app is now available in India and Philippines. To remind you, Facebook Lite is company’s light version of the main app. It will suit best for those who use internet on a slow 2G network. The good thing is that it is just 430KB in size, so you can easily download and install it from the Google Play store.
As Facebook Lite has been designed for low Internet connection users, so it packs limited feature. But it will work faster than the Facebook mobile website. With this launch, Facebook will increase the overall engagement time on its website. As most of its users from emerging markets like India are on the 2G network with low Internet connection.
Facebook Lite app will offer Facebook’s four key services like News Feed, Push Notifications, Messages and Status Updates. Facebook says that it optimizes contents like photos and status updates to load faster on the app. And it is planning to add the video support in the future.

“WE WILL GET TO VIDEO SOON… IN INDIA OVER 80% OF THE USERS ARE ON 2G NETWORK. WE HAVE WORKED ON IMPROVING THE APPS PERFORMANCE EVEN ON SPOTTY CONNECTIONS AND ACROSS DEVICES FROM ENTRY-SPEC DEVICES TO HIGH-END ONES.
